Well what a year 2020 has been! We have found ourselves spending more time with our immediate family and more time at home, and we are all missing being with our friends and extended family. It has made us all do things differently and ultimately has changed our priorities and mindset. This has also influenced how we feel about Christmas – we are shopping local, supporting independent businesses and buying British.
We saw Christmas start much earlier this year with people buying as soon as we came out of the first lockdown, and its seems everyone is keen to make their homes cosy for Christmas knowing we won’t be at get-togethers, parties or events. Here at Ferrers Gallery we have seen that homeware gifts and gifts that represent families are popular choices this year, and as all of our items are British made by the 100+ artisans we represent we know there’s plenty for you to choose from – but if you are looking for present inspiration our Top 5 Handcrafted British Gifts might help.
No.5 - Aroment Diffusers. These come in many scents from Blackberry and Bay to Spiced Gingerbread. I first came across these when a friend gave me one as a gift last Christmas. I put it out in my house in January and it was still going many months later, the scents are strong but not overpowering or synthetic and they last for ages. Aaron who creates the diffusers is very passionate about what he does and has created the packaging to be eco-friendly – the tins are recyclable! There’s no excess packaging just a lovely canvas pouch which can also be re-used. There’s also the added bonus that they are made in Derbyshire not very far from the gallery. With us all spending more time at home it’s nice to have luxurious scents running through the rooms and hallways. Whether you gift yourself one of these or you buy for a friend, sister, mum or neighbour, these are definitely a top gift choice this year. Shop Now
No 4 - Dawn Maciocia Homewares. Dawn’s work has been in our top 5 for the last few years. Dawn is a Scottish artist who works with torn paper to create fabulous works of art inspired by birds and wildlife. This artwork has then been transferred onto designs for lampshades, cushions, placemats, coasters and bits and bobs bags. The material used for the lampshades, cushions and bags are all vegan friendly faux suede, and it feels wonderful to the touch. These pieces have been bought for home lovers and animal lovers and those who love to add a bit of colour to their home. It’s always great to buy a gift that is going to be admired for many months and years. Shop Now

No.1 - Driftwood families by Yvette Brown. Family has been a big inspiration for gifting this year. While we try to protect our families, we are spending more time with those closest to us, and are being kept apart from other family members such as parents/grandparents, so it is understandable that we are wanting to treasure those we love. We have many variations of these in the gallery and a smaller selection online. Each one is made from found driftwood and handcrafted pewter figures. Recently we offered a bespoke service where you can depict your own choice of family, and the pets can be included too. It might be a gift for a single Mum with 2 children and 3 cats, or a present for your husband to represent your own family. It’s been a popular choice this year and a truly personal gift. So if you never seem to be able to get all of you together in a photograph this would make a perfect present. Shop Now
